L’histoire du club Swaythling<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Le Swaythling Club International (SCI)<\/a> est une association internationale qui favorise en premier lieu le contact et l’entretien de l’amiti\u00e9 entre d’anciens joueurs de pointe.
\nLe nom vient de Lady Swaythling \u2013 (dont le nom complet est Lady Gladys Goldsmid Montagu Swaythling (1879-1965)) \u2013 la m\u00e8re d’Ivor Montagu, l’organisateur de tournois des championnats du monde de tennis de table de 1926. Le Swaythling Club International (SCI) a \u00e9t\u00e9 fond\u00e9 le 20 avril 1967 \u00e0 Stockholm par 21 anciens participants aux championnats du monde de tennis de table qui ont ainsi mis en pratique une proposition de Zarko Dolinar. Parmi les membres fondateurs, on compte Laszlo F\u00f6ldy (Suisse), Guy Amouretti (France), Gosta Brolin (Su\u00e8de), Ron Crayden (Angleterre), Tage Flisberg (Su\u00e8de), Bill Gunn (USA), Vilmos Harangozo (Yougoslavie), Johnny Leach (Angleterre), Richard Miles (USA), George Roland (Belgique), Jupp Schlaf (RFA), Ferenc Sido (Hongrie) et Michael Thornhill (Angleterre). L’Hongrois Victor Barna \u00e9tait le premier pr\u00e9sident et d\u00e9veloppait le club jusqu’\u00e0 sa mort. En 1972, Joe Veselsky (Irlande) lui succ\u00e9da. Depuis l’an 2000, Diane Sch\u00f6ler occupe la fonction.<\/p>\n

En Suisse, il existe \u00e9galement un club Swaythling qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 fond\u00e9 en 1967 par Hugo Urchetti, qui \u00e9tait ensuite pr\u00e9sident durant de longues ann\u00e9es. Le club Swaythling Suisse s’engage pour diff\u00e9rents objectifs :<\/p>\n

\u00catre membre du club Swaythling<\/strong><\/p>\n

L’affiliation au SCI se fait \u00ab\u00a0sur invitation\u00a0\u00bb. En 1987, les exigences ont \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9cis\u00e9es : les membres doivent avoir gagn\u00e9 au moins un concours lors de championnats du monde de tennis de table ou avoir particip\u00e9 au moins \u00e0 deux championnats du monde ou avoir rempli la fonction de conseiller (\u00ab\u00a0non-playing team captain\u00a0\u00bb) lors de trois championnats du monde au moins.<\/p>\n

Chaque nation repr\u00e9sent\u00e9e par des membres au SCI, dispose d’un repr\u00e9sentant national qui d\u00e9fend les principes SCI dans son pays. En particulier, il devrait organiser une rencontre des membres lors des championnats nationaux. En avril 2005, le SCI comptait 96 nations et totalisait 661 membres.<\/p>\n
